Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 is releasing in theatres this Friday, but its poster has stirred up a controversy. After the poster of Amar Kaushik’s much-awaited sequel was released, online users have pointed out its striking resemblance to the poster of Stranger Things 2.

The release of the Stree 2 poster has sparked a flood of reactions on social media, with many comparing it to the Stranger Things 2 poster. The similarities, especially in the colour scheme, layout and overall design, have not gone unnoticed by sharp-eyed users. One user pointed out, “Stree 2 poster seems to be borrowed from Stranger Things 2,” while another questioned, “Copy or coincidence? It looks like a copy.” The debate did not stop there, as others left comments such as “Similar… but different” and “Inspired or copied?”

Some users acknowledged the slight differences between the two posters, but stressed that, “There are some differences, but the similarities are remarkable.” This online discussion has brought an unexpected twist to the anticipation about the film, sparking a conversation about originality and creative inspiration in the world of cinema.

Some fans are defending the Stree 2 poster, arguing that despite the similarities in the colour scheme, the posters contain different background elements and references specific to the film. They highlighted that both Stree 2 and Stranger Things 2 have supernatural themes, making some overlap in the design understandable. One user commented, “Even though the colour scheme is the same, the background in Stree 2 is different, and it has its own set of film references.”

Another said, “It’s just a tribute to the supernatural genre, not necessarily a rip-off.” Some commented that similar poster designs are common, with one saying, “Man, one in three movie posters look like this now.” Another said, “Stranger Things didn’t do a poster design with half blue, half red, floating faces; this is probably one of the most inauthentic poster designs in modern cinema.”

The much-awaited sequel Stree 2 brings back the beloved blend of supernatural elements and comedy that made its predecessor a hit in 2018. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film sees Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor reprising their roles, with Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana also returning in the ensemble cast.

Set in the same eerie town haunted by a mysterious female spirit, the sequel delves deeper into the stories of the characters and the horrifying legend of ‘Stree’. Produced under Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and written by the duo Raj and DK, with special appearances by Tamannaah Bhatia and Varun Dhawan, Stree 2 has already created excitement among fans.

The film, which is releasing on August 15, will compete with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khel Khel Mein’ and John Abraham’s ‘Veda’. Despite the competition, ‘Stree 2’ is already leading the box office, having sold over 100,000 tickets within 48 hours of advance booking.

On the other hand, the second season of Stranger Things, released in October 2017, begins a year after the events that took place in Hawkins, Indiana. As the kids try to return to normal life, they face new threats from the Upside Down, including a dangerous entity called the ‘Mind Flayer’. Eleven reappears, discovering more about her origins and abilities. The season has deepened the supernatural elements of the series while introducing new characters, all set against the backdrop of 1980s nostalgia.
