Benefits of eating mindfully

Our body often eats more food than required. By making a conscious change to eating twice a day, you can optimize your digestive health and overall well-being. This approach aligns with your body’s natural rhythms, as your digestive fire is directly linked to the heat level of the sun.

What should be the heaviest meal of the day?

“No meal should be heavy in my opinion, but compared to other meals, lunch is a time for a little indulgence, provided you eat a moderate breakfast and a light dinner,” says Greesha Dhingra.

Breakfast: a light and nutritious start

Breakfast should be a light and watery meal to start your day. Choose options like porridge, buckwheat/millet khichdi, or daliya. If you have a sedentary lifestyle, you won’t need as many carbohydrates. Instead, focus on warm herbal water, room temperature fruits and nuts.

Lunch: Hearty Meal

Lunch is the ideal time for your heaviest meal. Aim to eat around 12 noon or 2 pm. Although you can enjoy a variety of dishes including grains, curries, dal, salads and vegetables, it is important to eat in moderation. A small piece of sweet can be enjoyed as a treat.

Dinner: Light and quick meal

It is important to finish your dinner before 7:30 pm or maximum at 8 pm. Eating late can cause digestive problems and disrupt your sleep. Choose a hot bowl meal, vegetables, soup or cheela for a light and nutritious dinner. You can also drink a small cup of milk before bed to aid digestion and promote sleep.

Remember, it is not just about what you eat, but when you eat it is also important. Follow proper meal timings and see the difference.
