Late actress Shannen Doherty died on July 13. Before she died, she spoke at length about the series Charmed, in which she starred alongside Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs. Read on to find out what she said about Milano’s acting.
Shannen Doherty on Charmed
According to Entertainment Weekly, the actress made a guest appearance on the Rewatch podcast, iHeart Radio’s The House of Halliwell, hosted by her Charmed co-star and friend Holly Marie Combs, along with Drew Fuller and Brian Krause.
In the episode they discussed Alyssa Milano joining the series, as she replaced actress Lori Rom in the presentation, giving an example of what the show will look like prior to the pilot’s release.
Although the actress is known for her controversial relationship with Milano, she has said good things about her performance. Milano played Phoebe Halliwell in the WB series.
Doherty said it didn’t feel much different. She said Lori Rome, who played Phoebe in the production, was great. The late star called Rome a great actress.
She added, “And, you know, Lori and Alyssa are very, very, very different people. So Lori’s performance was different from Alyssa’s. Lori was very much like Holly and me in the play.”
Doherty said that their performance was very serious and it was very deep, which was Doherty’s style. So he loved the performance and he thought everyone was really nice.
The Beverly Hills 90210 actress shared that when Milano came on, she provided a kind of “lightness” that she felt the show needed. “And she came on and did a fantastic job,” Doherty added. According to the late star, Milano brought a slightly different “flavor” to Charmed.
Alyssa Milano shares a statement remembering Shannen Doherty
The Charmed series has been subject to controversy primarily due to the relationship between Milano and Doherty.
Following Doherty’s passing, the Little Italy actress shared her statement with Entertainment Weekly. The actress said it was no secret that they had a complicated relationship, but she respected Doherty greatly and was “surprised” by her passing.
Milano described the late actress as talented and loved by many. She added that the world is lesser without Doherty. The actress offered her condolences to her former Charmed co-star.
Shannen Doherty died at the age of 53 after battling cancer for several years, according to her publicist Lesley Sloan.
