Sharmin Segal wanted to sit on Aishwarya Rai’s lap as a child: ‘I don’t want to sit on Shah Rukh’s lap’

Actress Sharmin Segal was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Since its release, Sharmin has been making headlines for her performance as Alamzeb in the series, over which many netizens have trolled the actress.

The Heeramandi star had once shared his memories of visiting the sets of Bhansali’s 2002 film Devdas.

An old interview of Sharmin Segal has become the topic of discussion, in which the actress recalled visiting the sets of Devdas during her childhood days.

Sharmin said, “I was four years old, I used to roam around on the sets of Devdas, moving the props from here to there.”

Sharmin told that at that time she was very adamant about sitting on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s lap. The actress said that she would request her uncle Bhansali to fulfill her wish.

‘I want to sit on Aishwarya’s lap… Maa, Maa, please, please, please.’ “I used to request that no, no, no, I don’t want to sit on Shah Rukh (Khan)’s lap, I just want to sit on Aishwarya’s lap,” she recalled.

Devdas starred Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit Nene in lead roles. The 2002 film also featured Jackie Shroff in an important role. It was based on Bengali novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1917 novel of the same name.

Shahrukh played the role of Devdas Mukherjee, Aishwarya played the role of Parvati aka Paro. Madhuri’s character was named Chandramukhi. Shroff played the supporting role of Chunnilal.

Meanwhile, in early June, Sharmin Segal spoke to Pinkvilla about what she thought of the audience’s response to her performance in Heeramandi. To which Sharmin said that everyone has the right to their own opinion.

Talking about her interpretation of the role, the Heeramandi actress further added that she played the character exactly the way Sanjay Leela Bhansali had envisioned and asked her to play it.

Hiramandi releases on Netflix on May 1, 2024.
