Imtiaz Ali’s Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer ‘Jab We Met’ is one of the most popular Bollywood films. Recently, the director gave a glimpse of his relationship with Shahid. He revealed that Shahid is a ‘self-appointed mentor’ for him as he wanted Imtiaz to call him before fixing his price for the next film after ‘Jab We Met’.
In a recent interview on Mid-Day’s Sit With Hitlist, Imtiaz Ali revealed how his Jab We Met star Shahid Kapoor has guided him. The filmmaker said that he will never forget it and will always be grateful to him. Imtiaz revealed that Shahid told him that since his film was a bit successful, the director should not fix the price for his next film.
He revealed that Shahid felt the film’s collections were going up and Imtiaz told him, ‘I can ask for X lakhs.’ Imtiaz revealed that the actor told him that he could get double the price or even 1 crore. He shared Shahid’s instructions which were, ‘Don’t fix it now, don’t fix it without calling me.’ Imtiaz said that Shahid used to think people would fool him. He said, “Shahid was like a self-appointed guide.”
Imtiaz also revealed that his next film after Jab We Met is Love Aaj Kal, starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. Recalling his conversation with producer Dinesh Vijan, he said, “I waited and Dinu suffered. You ask him. He will never forget it. He said, ‘Sir, the number you told me made my head hit the ceiling.’ I said, ‘Blame Shahid Kapoor for it.’
The 2007 film Jab We Met is a cult classic that has received immense love from the audience and continues to do so. It was praised for its story, music, chemistry between the lead characters and much more.
Talking about Imtiaz Ali’s current work front, his film Amar Singh Chamkila was released on Netflix in April 2024. This biographical drama starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra was highly appreciated. It is based on the life of musician Amar Singh Chamkila.
