Javed Akhtar’s first marriage to Honey Irani ended due to various reasons, and though he later fell in love with Shabana Azmi, he was not ready to settle down. His close friend Annu Kapoor, in an interview with ANI, shared an interesting story of how he played the role of matchmaker for the couple.
One night in 1984, after a few drinks, Annu asked Shabana why she was not married yet. She was hesitant, as Javed was not ready to commit, but Kapoor urged her to go ahead.
When the lyricist remained unsure, she took matters into her own hands and convinced him to marry her. Without wasting any time, he went to a mosque in Bandra, arranged for a Maulvi and invited Shabana’s mother and friends like Boney Kapoor. After the impromptu wedding, the group celebrated the occasion and continued the fun till 4 am
Javed and Honey Irani have two children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. Shabana Azmi has a warm and cordial relationship with both her children and even with Honey.
