Saudi Arabia has entered the global Artificial Intelligence Race with the launch of a new Arabic-first chatbot Humen chat designed to show the culture, language and values of the region. Developed by Riyadh -based Startup Human, the app is being described as the world’s first “halal AI” which is fluent in Arabic, is sensitive to Islamic culture, and is easily able to engage in bilingual interactions.
The center of technology has Allam 34B, a large language model, trained on more than eight petabytes data, which the company claims that the largest Arabic dataset made so far is. This training allows chatbot to respond naturally to different Arabic dialects such as Egypt, Gulf and Leventine, while also offers a smooth switching between Arabic and English in the middle of a conversation. Users can type or speak AI, can get real-time search-supported answers, and even share complete conversations with others.
This service is now available on web, iOS and Android in Saudi Arabia, with expansion in other areas expected in the coming months. Human, which was unveiled earlier this year, is supported by the Kingdom’s Public Investment Fund and is working as a full-stack AI company with the Kingdom’s Public Investment Fund and focusing on infrastructure, cloud, data and applications. The firm has also emphasized that the chatbot fully complies with Saudi Arabia’s personal data protection law and that all data is stored within the state to ensure privacy and sovereignty.
Human Chief Executive Officer Tarek Amin said that the launch is a major milestone for the Arabic speaking world and shows that Saudi Arabia can provide advanced technology built on its talent and infrastructure. According to him, the project highlights a great ambition to accelerate innovation in the state, meeting the cultural needs of billions and Muslims globally.
The regional competition in Artificial Intelligence as a launch increases. The UAE has already introduced its Falcon Arabic model, and the two countries are creating themselves as leaders in creating AI systems that are not only technically capable, but also culturally grounded. While global chatbots such as Chatgpt dominate international conversations, efforts such as Human chat stand out because they provide a product to suit Arabic heritage and Islamic values, some global equipment often struggles to distribute.
