The Sardar G3 has emerged as the highest -grossing Punjabi film, crossing Trakel Jat and Juliet 3 starring another Diljit Dosanj. Horror Comedy has earned Jat and Juliet 3 to the last 7.75 million (Rs 67 crore).
This record has come to a large extent due to its extraordinary run in Pakistan, where it is now the second highest -grossing film so far behind the legend of Maula Jat. The film has so far grossed PKR over 50 crores, and the way it is trending can be more as PKR 65-70 crores. Along with Pakistan, the film is also the largest grocer from Polywood in the United States, United Kingdom, Middle East and some European markets.
However, there are usually two largest foreign sectors for Punjabi films, Canada and Australia, the film is lower than record numbers. In Canada, it has earned CAD 3 million, which is less than CAD 3.88 million of J & J3, while Australia AUD is third from Mastany (AUD 1.67 million) and J&J3 (AUD 1.55 million) with 1.20 million.
The film featured a Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir, which was released in India, but Pakistan and Pakistani migrants extended their appeal abroad. All the above markets where the film became the most groser is those who have an important Pakistani migrants.
Despite its remarkable foreign runs, the absence of a release in India has significantly reduced its numbers worldwide. Needless to say, with a release in India, the film lasts Rs. 100 crores mark and probably defeated Jat and Juliet 3 as the largest Punjabi film.
The domestic market for Punjabi films is in dire need of hits since September last year. Even though films have done well, some also did blockbuster numbers abroad, but things have become domesticly silent. Sardar Ji3 was expected to be that film, but it did not happen. Khudar, that the Sardar G3 could get a release in India this August, but given political complications, it remains a long shot.
