Sardar G3 last Rs. 50 crore marks abroad on the fifteenth day of release. Diljit Dosanj starrer earned 175k USD on its third Friday, which became a total of 6 million (Rs 51 crore). The film is only the second Punjabi film which is grossly Rs. 50 crore abroad after Jat and Juliet 3. The USD is estimated to earn more than 550k at the end of this week, which will definitely keep it ahead of Jat and Juliet 3 Final Overseas Tally.
The main difference between Sardar G3 and J&J3 is Pakistan, where the former has emerged as a box office. It has grossed about 30 crore PKR so far and will soon become the largest Indian film in the country, which has crossed Sanju and Sultan. The way this is going on, PKR can be more than 50 crores gross. The film is a Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir, due to which the film has been denied a dramatic release in India. However, it has increased its appeal abroad in Pakistan and Pakistani migrants.
What are the two biggest foreign markets for Punjabi films, Canada and Australia, the film is behind Jat and Juliet 3. But wherever, there is a good appearance of the Pakistani diaspora, that market has overforced. In the United Kingdom, it is ready to overtake Jat and Juliet 3 in a day or two and will emerge India’s largest Punjabi film. Similarly, the Middle East is already twice the J&J3. Norway, a small market, but operated by Pakistani migrants, has earned USD 40K, beyond any other Indian Punjabi film.
Despite its remarkable foreign runs, the absence of a release in India has significantly reduced its numbers worldwide. Needless to say, with a release in India, the film lasts Rs. 100 crores mark and probably defeated Jat and Juliet 3 as the largest Punjabi film.
The domestic market for Punjabi films is in dire need of hits since September last year. In the end, films have done well, some have also done blockbuster numbers abroad, things have become silent at the domestic level. Sardar Ji3 was expected to be that film but it did not happen. Khudar, that the Sardar G3 could get a release in India this August, but given political complications, it remains a long shot.
