Kerala, known as ‘God’s own country’, is a paradise for food lovers. The culinary delights of the state feature a rich blend of spices, aromatic herbs and fresh coconuts. From crunchy Kerala Porotta to delicious fish curry – the flavors and textures are absolutely unique. Recently, celebrity chef Sarah Todd embarked on a culinary journey in a coastal destination, and it’s giving us serious travel envy. After seeing the glimpses, we can’t wait to go and enjoy these delicious dishes ourselves.
Their adventure started with a classic Kerala dish – Undampori, crunchy banana fritters and a steaming cup of tea. These are prepared by deep frying a mixture of ripe bananas, rice flour, jaggery and a little cardamom. Sara was impressed as soon as she took her first bite. He revealed that the snack was crispy on the outside, while fluffy on the inside and had a bit of spice to it. In his side note, he wrote, “I had undampori and tea for breakfast, and the local tea guy at Shamsikka’s tea shop was kind enough to teach me how to make tea. Next, Sarah Todd turned her attention to another popular snack – Pazham Pori. She captioned, “Those golden, ripe banana fritters are what Kerala is all about. Made from Nantrapazum, a super-ripe banana variety unique to the region, they are soft, sweet and lightly crunchy. Kind of “Snacks that make you stop, taste, and smile.” Sara said that Pazham Pori can be found in abundance on the streets of Kochi.

Sarah Todd also tasted Puttu and Kadala curry from Kerala. “Puttu with Kadala Curry is the ultimate comfort dish – soft, fluffy layers of steamed rice flour and coconut paired with a bold, spicy black gram curry. “Every bite is a hug from God’s own country,” he wrote in the caption.
