Samsung unveiled the exclusive Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition at its Unpacked event in France. The new foldable is the same as the regular version on the inside, but it comes with a flashy yellow paint job, some extra pre-loaded apps, and a Flipsuit case.
This customised phone will be gifted to all athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, a testament to Samsung’s three-decade partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Samsung has been gifting custom-built smartphones to all athletes since Rio 2016, but this time Samsung’s newest product will be gifted to the athletes before the official market launch.
Stephanie Choi, executive vice president and head of marketing for Samsung’s Mobile Experience Business, said the phone will enhance players’ experience at the Games in Paris, “from building meaningful connections to creating lifelong memories.”
To make it easier for athletes to use their phones in Paris, each Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition has an eSIM with 100GB of 5G data courtesy of Orange. The official Paris 2024 app, the Athlete 365 platform, which is essentially a closed social media environment for athletes, and the Transport Accred app are also available.
Samsung Wallet will have a pre-loaded in-app pass that entitles you to free beverages at vending machines located throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Villages. In addition, there’s also a complimentary public transport access card – the product comes from the IOC’s partnership with Coca-Cola and Parisian public transport company IDFM.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition
Samsung will show off the Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition at multiple showcases in Paris. It may be put on sale later without the athlete-only benefits, just like the company did with the custom-made Galaxy Z Flip 3 in China for Beijing 2022 and the dedicated Galaxy S21 in Japan for Tokyo 2020.
Athletes competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics will begin receiving their phones on July 18, a week before the opening ceremony on the River Seine. The parade will be broadcast with the Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphone via a dedicated 5G network.
