Samsung may unveil three new Samsung Galaxy S25 models at its latest Unpacked event, as it does with every flagship release. However, there are rumors that a new smartphone – the Galaxy S25 Slim – may also be launched at this year’s event. But, is it really coming? Well, the latest leak has revealed that Samsung is preparing to launch a new slim model in May this year. This means that we won’t see it launch at tomorrow’s Samsung Galaxy S25 launch event, but there are chances that the company may tease it to surprise its fans. Recently Samsung has done something similar with its smart ring. The brand first teased it at the launch of the Galaxy S24 series and the product was shown at the MWC 2024 event and was later made available on the shelves. Here are 5 things you should know about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim to launch soon: 5 things to know
The biggest design upgrade?
The leak claims that the Galaxy S25 Slim will have the thinnest design that people have ever seen on a Samsung smartphone. Its thickness may be 6.4mm, which is slightly less than the rumored 6mm thickness for the iPhone 17 Air models, but it’s still quite impressive if the company is able to achieve it. This device is likely to appeal to those who favor a very thin profile and lightweight design. But, the slim form factor also means you may get a smaller battery, downgraded heat dissipation system and lower camera quality compared to other S25 models as the company will have less room to fit the best technology into a thinner frame. Additionally, the thin body may make it more fragile and prone to damage. But, this is why companies like Samsung and Apple may take time to launch such smartphones because there are some challenges that they need to resolve.
Also, it is good to see Samsung experimenting with something new in the flagship range to provide a better experience to the users. However, whether this turns into reality or not remains to be seen.
Display
The Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to come with a 6.7-inch display, which also means that this model could have a larger screen than the 6.3-inch panel rumored for the standard Galaxy S25.
While details regarding the display technology are unknown, the slim model is expected to come with support for at least an adaptive refresh rate that adjusts from 1Hz to 120Hz. This will allow for a smoother scrolling experience while preserving some battery life when it comes to lower refresh rates depending on the content. Samsung has always offered an AMOLED panel, even with mid-range devices, so the Slim version will not be an exception.
New chipset?
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim is rumored to use the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which would be a good move by Samsung as Qualcomm chips have proven to deliver solid performance out of the box. However, at the moment it is unknown whether the company plans to introduce this chip in select markets or not. We may see an Exynos 2400-powered Galaxy S25 Slim in some markets, but nothing is confirmed yet.
A flagship camera?
Leaked reports suggest that the Galaxy S25 Slim may feature a 200-megapixel main camera, similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. While it’s unclear whether the additional lenses will fit into the thin body of the device, Samsung’s upcoming ALoP (all lenses on prism) technology could enable a sleek, thin build with a good camera setup. Expected to launch at MWC 2025, this technology could allow the Slim to maintain high-end camera performance without compromising its slim design. But, there is no concrete information about the camera bit, so users are advised to take the details with a grain of salt.
What could be its price? Will it be placed in the Galaxy S25 series?
It is rumored that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim could be a replacement for the Galaxy FE model. On the contrary, there are also reports that the company may position the new model in the flagship S25 series. This could be similar to what Apple is doing with the Plus models, which offer a larger display and battery than the standard iPhone models. Talking about the battery, rumors suggest that the S25 Slim could have a capacity between 3,000mAh and 4,000mAh. It will be interesting to see how well it fits a flagship device – assuming this model is indeed being positioned as one. Realistically, the situation depends on the specifications that the slim version will have and it is too early to talk about this as there are very few details about the smartphone.
