Samsung tells the “design story” of the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6

Last Wednesday, Samsung launched its new foldable phones Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6. Today, the company has released its “design story” for these two phones, which explains how they were designed and what is the purpose of the design changes. So let’s get started.

Samsung says both of these devices “epitomize modern, sleek design” and that “through their simple, solid exterior and linear shape, these devices express the Galaxy’s design identity”, whatever that means.

New to this generation is what Samsung calls the Floating Design. This “distinctive and impressive design element” makes it so that “viewed from the side, it appears that the foldable’s screen is floating above their body”. When they are folded, the “bold lines” along the sides “accentuate their smooth, linear look”, and also help with easy opening.

The Fold6 is “more user-friendly than ever” thanks to its reduced length and increased width, and it also comes with “a fresh new look” with nearly symmetrical corners. Samsung says the Fold6 is “the thinnest and lightest of all Galaxy Z Fold models to date,” which is true but the main point is Across all Galaxy Z Fold modelsDon’t forget that Honor’s recently unveiled Magic V3 and Magic VS3 are in a whole different league when it comes to thinness.

Samsung believes the Fold6’s “balanced design” ensures “maximum comfort,” and again, Compared to previous Galaxy Z FoldsThis is probably true – though we’ll have to test it for ourselves to see how sharp corners feel in the hand during everyday use.

Both the Fold6 and Flip6 have a “signature linear camera layout” that “takes center stage” to differentiate them from their predecessors. The Fold6 adds “a bold camera decoration” at the bottom that further highlights the individual camera circles.

Meanwhile, the Flip6’s camera design “reflects the vibrant, bubbly spirit” of the series with camera embellishments designed to match the available body colours, making it instantly recognisable (since we might add that it looks pretty similar to the Flip5).

About the colours, Samsung says that “each colour in this series represents a joyful moment of connecting with nature”. The built-in wallpapers also “blend seamlessly into the device’s exterior aesthetic” and “adapt to the visual cues conveyed by each device colour, bringing the device to life”.

The wallpaper “reacts interactively based on the angle of the display, turning the simple act of folding and unfolding into moments of joy”. The company concludes its “design story” by saying that these two models “herald a new beginning for the Galaxy Z series, with designs focused on their essence”, making them “set to shape the future of foldables”, which sounds like wishful thinking.

Speaking of wishes, Samsung wants to sell 10% more Fold5 and Flip5 than last year, let’s see how that goes. In the meantime, if you want to know more about the Fold6 and Flip6, take a look at our hands-on review.
