Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold6 at its Unpacked event in Paris, showing off a thinner, lighter phone with a new aspect ratio for its screen. The new flagship foldable features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and runs One UI 6.1.1, complete with the latest Galaxy AI goodies from the company’s labs.
The most important change brought by the Galaxy Z Fold6 is arguably the new, slightly different aspect ratio of its cover screen. It’s still not what you’d call traditional, but the 22.1:9 ratio is a lot better than the outgoing model’s 23.1:9.
The diagonal of the cover display has also grown slightly to 6.3″, which combined with the new aspect ratio makes for a decent increase in size at the expense of the bezels.
The Galaxy Fold6 is 1.5mm shorter and 2.9mm wider when unfolded (1mm when folded) than the Galaxy Fold5. It’s also 0.5mm thinner when unfolded (1.3mm when folded), but most importantly, it’s 14 grams lighter than its predecessor. In fact, at 239 grams, it’s getting close to the lightest foldables and is also only 24 grams heavier than the Galaxy S7 Ultra.

The hinge has also been redesigned, and Samsung has also fitted a 1.6 times larger vapour chamber than the Fold5 to further improve heat dissipation. The Fold6 is also IP48 certified – a first for dust protection in a foldable. Sure, it only guarantees protection against solid particles larger than 1mm in size, but it’s still better than anything else we have.

On the inside, you get a 7.6″ foldable (or as Samsung calls it Infinity Flex) display with a 20.9:18 aspect ratio. Both the main and cover screens are Dynamic AMOLED 2X with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The cover display and the back of the phone (when folded) have Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection.
The five cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold6 don’t bring much in the way of hardware upgrades. You still get a 50 MP f/1.8 main camera with OIS on the back, along with a 10 MP f/2.4 telephoto unit with 3x optical zoom and a 12 MP f/2.2 ultrawide shooter with a 123-degree field of view.
There’s a 10MP selfie camera housed inside a punch-hole on the cover display, while a 4MP video-chat shooter is hidden beneath the foldable display.
Disappointingly, for the third generation in a row, Samsung’s flagship foldable comes with a 4,400mAh battery that supports 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. However, the company promises that the Galaxy Fold6’s improved efficiency will help it last longer between charges.
Samsung talked at length about the Galaxy AI advancements, highlighting the Z Fold6’s big-screen productivity boost. It carries forward Note Assist and Circle to Search, but new Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1 capabilities take advantage of the foldable form factor. Interpreter Mode allows both parties to see translations on the main and cover displays, while Sketch to Image lets AI create refined art from sketches made in the Gallery or Note screen.
Talking about the software, Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Z Fold6 will offer 7 generations of Android updates.
