The Galaxy S24 FE has now been revealed, and it looks a lot like this year’s Galaxy S24+. And if it’s as great as the Plus model, is it worth paying extra for the flagship model, or would it be better to get the cheaper FE? Let’s find out!
At around €580, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE seems like an attractive offer right now, even more than the €780 Samsung Galaxy S24+. Then the flagship Plus model has some nice tricks that aren’t available for the FE – faster charging, better zoom and selfie cameras, UWB support, etc.
Let’s place both the phones facing each other.

While both phones have similar sized displays – 6.7-inch OLEDs, the Galaxy S24+ is a smaller and lighter phone. See, the S24+ has thinner bezels due to the more premium LTPO OLED screen, and thus, it comes in a smaller and thinner body. Additionally, the S24+ is 17 grams lighter than the S24 FE.
There is one other difference, albeit not as significant – the S24+ has new Gorilla Glass Victus2 panels and a tougher-grade aluminum frame. Both phones are IP68-rated.
It’s also worth noting that the S24 FE has a virtual proximity sensor, which doesn’t work like the hardware inside the Galaxy S24.
As you can see, design-wise, the Galaxy S24 FE and S24+ are identical. But due to the lighter and smaller body, the Galaxy S24+ wins in this segment.

As we mentioned above, both phones have 6.7-inch OLED panels. But they are completely different. The S24 FE has a mainstream 1080p display with a not very variable refresh rate (60Hz/120Hz). Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24+ comes with a higher 1440p resolution LTPO screen and a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
The maximum screen brightness of both the phones is almost the same and both the phones support HDR10+ video.
The winner in the display department is the Galaxy S24+.
battery life
Despite being a larger and heavier phone, the Galaxy S24 FE has a smaller 4,700mAh battery compared to the 4,900mAh present in the Galaxy S24+. And the Plus model achieved better active usage ratings by offering 1.5 hours more web browsing/social and nearly 2 hours more video streaming. However, the Galaxy S24 FE made a serious edge in call runtime, probably due to its more power-efficient modem.
With phones in this category being exchanged, we’re willing to call it a tie.

The Galaxy S24 FE supports wired charging up to 25W. The Galaxy S24+ supports up to 45W fast wired charging, or as Samsung likes to call it, Fast Charging 2.0. Neither phone comes with a charger, but as long as you get the right specified charger with USB PD 3.0+PPS support, you don’t need to buy a Samsung charger.
Both phones support up to 15W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.
The Galaxy S24+ recharges its battery fast, and in a span of 30 minutes, its larger battery restores 18% more battery charge, giving it an easy win in this category.
speaker test
The Galaxy S24 FE and S24+ have stereo speakers of the hybrid variety – meaning there’s one speaker at the bottom of the phone, and the earpiece acts as the other.
Like any other hybrid pair, the earpiece is quiet and focuses mostly on highs and mids, while the lower full-fledged speaker has bass and good vocals.
Both speaker systems received very good marks in our loudness test. However, the setup of the S24+ seems to provide slightly better output.
Display
The Galaxy S24 FE uses Samsung’s in-house chip – the Exynos 2400e – which is the same as the Exynos 2400 found in the S24+. The 2400e and 2400 chipsets have an identical 10-core processor. However, the maximum clock speed inside the 2400e (S24 FE) is slightly lower.
The Xclipse 940 GPU is very similar to the Exynos 2400 – it’s an AMD RDNA 3 design and has proven to be quite powerful.
The Galaxy S24 FE has 8GB of RAM, while the S24+ comes with 12GB.

Quite expectedly, the Galaxy S24+ has slightly more powerful hardware, though for all intents and purposes, we’d rank the real-life performance as similar. More RAM on the Galaxy S24+ may be more beneficial for AI tasks later on.
The Galaxy S24 and S24 FE get Samsung’s new extended software support treatment, promising seven major OS updates and seven years of security patches.
camera comparison
The Galaxy S24 FE and S24+ camera setups look similar on paper. These include a 50MP main camera, a 3x telephoto, and a 12MP ultrawide, however, the actual camera hardware of these two phones is different.
The S24+ also has a high-resolution 12MP selfie camera with dual-pixel PDAF, while the S24 FE has a 10MP unit with fixed focus.
image quality
The Galaxy S24 FE and Galaxy S24+ both deliver flagship-level photos with their main cameras – maybe not the best we’ve seen, but still pretty good. We are seeing almost similar pictures.
The 3x telephoto on the S24+ has a larger, higher resolution sensor but the pixel size is the same, so the image quality is also roughly the same. One key difference between the two is that the S24 FE’s camera has a longer reach.
If you equate their actual focal lengths, the S24+ camera has a 2.8x zoom, while the S24 FE camera has a 3.1x zoom. A tighter zoom provides greater magnification and, as a result, a more detailed shot from the same shooting position.
As for the ultrawide cam, the Galaxy S24+ has a physically larger sensor, but we can hardly notice a difference between the two in image quality or detail in daylight photos.

In low-light scenarios, the S24+’s main camera seems to be slightly ahead in low-light photography overall, perhaps due to the better ISP and processing. It develops shade and darker areas better.
As for ultrawides, the S24+ is way ahead in image quality, producing more detailed photos.
The S24+’s zoom camera delivers somewhat cleaner images with better definition, though the difference isn’t as big as the ultrawide.

video quality
Both the Galaxy support up to 8K30 video capturing from their main cameras and up to 4K60 video capturing from the rest of the cameras. The biggest difference in video quality is when shooting videos with 3x zoom – the Galaxy S24+ videos are of better quality. The rest of the cameras capture relatively similar video.
decision
The Galaxy S24 FE and Galaxy S24+ are excellent smartphones with great screens, powerful hardware, and versatile cameras with solid quality. The S24 FE is €200 cheaper, so you’ll have to choose your priorities wisely.
We think the price premium for the Galaxy S24+ is worth it as you’ll get a more compact device with a larger battery, faster charging, slimmer bezels, and a higher-resolution screen with LTPO technology, a physical proximity sensor, an ultrasonic sensor, and an ultrasonic sensor. Fingerprint reader, UWB and cameras that are slightly better even in low light. Let’s not forget the 12GB of RAM and the slightly more capable chipset.
But if the S24+ is out of your budget, the Galaxy S24 FE will give you 90% of the same experience at a lower price, at the expense of a slightly heavier body and some cost-savings here and there.
There’s no easy answer to this dilemma of which one to get, so consider your priorities and decide whether the S24+ is worth the price premium depending on whether you like the extra features it offers. Give importance to or not.
