Speaking with Galatta, Samantha Ruth Prabhu shed light on how it was his words of demotivation that took her into a rut of self-confidence and insecurity.
In his words, “Growing up I had to fight for recognition my entire life. My father was like that… I think most Indian parents are like that. They think they are protecting you. He actually told me, ‘You’re not that smart.’
The actress further revealed how her father had commented that she got good grades in school only because of the poor education system and not because of her own merit. Samantha mentioned that hearing such judgments as a child had led her to believe that she really wasn’t good enough.
Moving on, the starlet highlighted that her father’s words stayed in her conscience for a long time, making her truly believe that she was not meant for all the success that came her way.
Samantha remembered the time when her film Ye Maya Chesave became a hit and was appreciated by everyone; She was not able to process and accept it.
The actress concluded that she feared people would no longer look up to her and would even think she lacked any talent. She said, “It took me 10-12 years or more to realize that I am not perfect and will never be perfect. But imperfect is also very good.”
Samantha once talked about her father, when she recalled the moment in her life when he refused to pay her bills.
While speaking with Karan Johar on his chat show, the diva revealed that acting was never her first choice, and she chose it because she had no other option.
Samantha recounts the life-changing moment when her father said he would no longer pay her bills and loans. He also said that his family did not have enough money for his further education. As a result, he had to work in film.
