In short

  • Sam Altman says Humanoid robots will soon change our lives
  • He warns that the world is not ready for change will bring robots
  • Openai AI-Operated Humanoid Robot is collaborating with Figure AI

AI has started taking some jobs, something that has the ability to change our lives. But this is just the beginning, or so OpenEE CEO Sam Altman says, whose chat is a major component in this AI disintegration. Altman now believes that the world is still not seen what smart robots can really do. In an interview with Bloomberg recently, Altman warned that while most people focus on the place of desk jobs instead of AI, another significant change is around the corner: Humanoid robots that would soon be running on the road.

“I don’t think it was actually a moment of humanoid robot in the world,” Altman told Bloomberg. “People would have thought abstracting about AI instead of specific tasks like programming or customer aid, but the moment when humanoid robots are a common vision will surprise people.”

Altman said that this moment is not far away, and it would feel something outside of a science-fi film. He said, “You will be walking on the road, and you will walk seven robots from you, doing things. It is very science-fi feeling,” he said. Altman emphasizes that humanoid robots will change people’s way of work and technology.

Meanwhile, talking about the current disruption in the job sector, Altman admitted that “AI is definitely going to change a lot of jobs.” However, he said the change would take place in two stages: “AI will completely take some jobs away and create a bunch of new people,” he said.

Altman believes that this disruption is not new, indicating that technology has always brought significant changes in the workforce. However, he also expressed concern that the world is still not ready for upcoming technological changes and immedia, especially the arrival of humanoid robots in everyday life. The idea of a humanoid robot entering the workforce may seem like a far-off dream, but as Altman states, it is close to many feelings.

“We have always been transparent about what we think the effect of AI will be, realizing that we would be wrong about some details,” Altman accepted.

Interestingly, Openai is actively working on its humanoid robot project. Earlier this year, Openai announced its cooperation with Figure AI, a startup that focused on developing a humanoid robot. As reported by Business Insider, OpenAII signed an agreement with Figure AI earlier this year to accelerate the growth of humanoid robots designed to assist in various fields such as manufacturing, logistics, warehousing and retail.

Chitra has already launched its robot, Figure -01. The company said that this humanoid is designed to help solve the lack of labor by demonstrating physically demanding jobs. The company also demonstrated a robot operating a coffee machine, an achievement that managed to work with the help of robot AI that learned the work by looking at humans. Figure founder and CEO, Brett Edcock called the performance a milestone in “End-to-end AI”, where a single model learns a complete task autonomously.

With the progress in AI and robotics, we can soon find ourselves in a world where robots are not just equipment but active participants in daily life. However, Altman warned that change will come soon with expectation, and the world may not be ready for it. Their idea is that changes in robots can be more dramatic to anyone.
