Salman Khan wants to remake ‘Sholay’, tells which character he will play
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has expressed interest in remaking the Ramesh Sippy-directed classic ‘Sholay’, written by Salim-Javed.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has done several remakes in his career (Wanted, Ready). The actor has recently expressed interest in remaking his father Salim Khan and former screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar’s iconic film Sholay.
In a promotional video released by Prime Video for the Salim-Javed documentary, Angry Young Men, host Farah Khan asked Salman which Salim-Javed film he would like to remake. Without a pause, Salman replied, “Sholay.”
He said, “If I have to remake any of his films, I would like to remake Sholay. I can play both Jai and Veeru, I can even play Gabbar.” Everyone laughed at this.
Javed Akhtar, who was also present for the roundtable, recalled how many in the cast wanted to play the villain Gabbar, which was originally played by late actor Amjad Khan. “Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjeev Kumar said they wanted to play Gabbar. However, Dharmendra never said he wanted the role, as he was happy with his role,” Akhtar said.
Angry Young Men is a new documentary series focusing on the careers of screenwriters Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, then known as Salim-Javed.
During the trailer launch of Angry Young Men, Javed Akhtar’s son and filmmaker turned actor Farhan Akhtar spoke about the duo and said, “The title of this documentary Angry Young Men is apt because they have brought their life experiences, their identity and their voice into the characters we all know as Vijay, and it has left an indelible mark on all of us.”
Co-produced by Salman Khan, Zoya Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Reema Kagti, Angry Young Men is currently streaming on Prime Video.
