Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar were the revolutionary writing duo of their time but they parted ways in 1982 after delivering over 22 blockbuster films together. In a new turn of events, the duo is now reuniting for a docu-series based on their lives titled Angry Young Men. The director of the Prime Video project, Namrata Rao, recently spoke to ANI and revealed how the two families remained united despite the rift.
The National Award winner shared, “Till date, Salim-Javed share a friendly relationship. (While making the docuseries), Salman Khan recalled how Salim sahab had advised his family to always maintain ‘dosti’ with Javed Akhtar despite their separation. There was never any bitterness between the two families.”
Namrata spoke about Salim and Javed’s sense of humour and called them ‘interesting people’. She admitted that she got to learn a lot from them during the making of this docu-series and that they were two funny people. Rao said, “At times, we had to say silence on the set because everyone would burst into laughter after listening to them.”
Prime Video’s Angry Young Men, releasing on August 20, is a trip down memory lane into the life and revolution of writer-duo Salim-Javed, who introduced the archetype of the Angry Young Man to Hindi cinema. Talking about the upcoming title, Salim Khan briefly looked back at his life in a press note.
The veteran writer revealed how he began his career in front of the camera, but later realised his true strength lay in his ability to tell stories. This was the time when he started writing – something that came naturally to him. “Then I met Javed, who was equally passionate about writing, and together we created some fantastic work that I am very proud of. We did great things and achieved great success, and also challenged industry norms along the way,” Khan said.
Angry Young Men is produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media and Entertainment and Tiger Baby, executive produced by Salma Khan, Salman Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti. Watch it on Prime Video on August 20.
