8 killed, many injured in powerful explosion at Red Fort; Delhi on red alert
A high-intensity explosion occurred in a vehicle on Monday evening near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort metro station in Chandni Chowk area of Delhi. At least eight people died and many were injured in the powerful explosion that occurred around 7 pm. Due to the explosion, many nearby vehicles caught fire and the windows of nearby buildings were broken and there was a lot of damage caused. Red alert has been declared in the national capital. Several agencies including seven fire engines, Delhi Police Special Cell, National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) are at the scene. The area has been cordoned off as a multi-agency investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion. The injured have been taken to LNJP Hospital for treatment. After this incident, security arrangements have been increased in entire Delhi.

Eyewitnesses said a large ball of fire erupted, causing panic and destroying many vehicles. Delhi Police’s anti-terrorism unit and forensic experts are investigating the spot for clues.
