Saira Banu on Padosan’s re-release, said the new generation should experience it
Veteran actress Saira Banu spoke about the re-release of Padosan. She urged the new generation to experience the charm of the film.

Veteran actors Saira Banu, Sunil Dutt, Kishore Kumar and Mehmood’s 1968 film Padosan has been re-released in theatres. Banu, who played the lead role in the film, wrote a long note on Instagram, reminiscing memories from the sets. She also promised fans that she will share more about the film in her upcoming posts.
Saira Banu had taken a step back from films after marrying veteran actor Dilip Kumar. However, it was only after Mehmood’s insistence that Banu decided to join the cast of Padosan. When the film was re-released in theatres, Banu said that the film was a “priceless part of cinema history” that the new generation should watch.
Saira Banu wrote, “I am very happy to know that a film very close to my heart “Padosan” is being re-released in theatres. This film is not only my dearest but is a cherished part of cinematic history which I believe the new generation should watch. It is a brilliant performance by an extraordinary cast brought to life by Dutt Sahab, Mehmood Bhai, Kishore ji and many others.”
She added, “Thinking about Padosan, I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to be a part of it, especially given the circumstances at the time. After my marriage, I had taken a step back from my professional career, and it was only due to Mehmood bhai’s persistent persuasion and thoughtful arrangements made to facilitate shooting in Madras that I was able to agree to be a part of the project. The film’s cast included the unforgettable Dutt sahab, who humorously questioned my break from his usual glamorous roles, and the wonderful Kishore ji, making the experience truly memorable. The on-set laughter and camaraderie was so intense that at times, we had to stop filming because I couldn’t stop laughing.”
The veteran actor ended his note with a promise, “It’s a pleasure to see “Padosan” celebrated once again, and I look forward to sharing more anecdotes about this remarkable film, which is a highlight of my career and a joyous part of my cinematic legacy.”
