At the People’s Choice Country Awards 2024 on Thursday, Shania Twain talked about Sabrina Carpenter, who is currently touring in promotional support for her new album Short N’ Sweet. The Espresso hitmaker recently performed That Don’t Impress Me Much, one of Twain’s mega-hit songs from 1997, during her tour in Toronto, Canada.
Twain was overjoyed, considering Carpenter’s cover of her song a great compliment. She also took to her Instagram Stories to repost a clip of Sabrina singing. During the People’s Choice Country Awards 2024 red carpet event, the From This Moment On singer spoke with E! News and shared why she was so thrilled about the tribute.
Twain described Carpenter’s cover as very attractive. He praised the Feathers singer as “really talented” and “smart”, while also praising how the young pop star approached his popular song. Twain said, “That’s a huge compliment. I mean he’s a very talented guy! He’s smart, so that’s a compliment.”
The cover appeared to be the highlight of the show as it was part of the “Wheel of Fortune” segment where Sabrina Carpenter covers a song chosen at random. Since Twain is from Ontario, the tribute had depth, and so it was appropriate to add it as a tribute.
Meanwhile, Twain wasn’t just present at the People’s Choice Country Awards 2024 to praise fellow singers. She was also hosting the star-studded event! Her Shania Twain: Come On Over-The Las Vegas Residency-All The Hits! Received a nomination in the 2024 Concert Tour category.
The top nominee this year was Zac Bryan who collected an astonishing 19 nominations and Beyoncé also joins him on that list with 17 nominations. Twain shared with Billboard how hosting the awards show was a fulfilling moment for her. He said, “It takes me back to my own beginnings in Nashville and being a new recording artist there.” He also expressed his joy in meeting new artists and old colleagues and enjoying the ability to promote country music in a dedicated area.
