Anupama actor Rupali Ganguly has filed a defamation suit against stepdaughter Esha Verma for “tarnishing” her reputation through social media statements. Ganguly’s lawyer Sana Raees Khan, in a statement, pointed to Verma’s “foreign citizenship” and said it does not protect him from legal jurisdiction in India.
“We have filed a defamation suit in the High Court today to counter the malicious and deliberate attempt to tarnish Rupali’s reputation through baseless and defamatory statements,” Khan said.
“No one can misuse public platforms to defame and degrade others without facing consequences,” he said.
The lawyer further said, “The fallacious notion that foreign citizenship can shield a person from accountability is legally baseless. Justice knows no bounds, and the law will pursue those who abuse their privileges to commit crimes.” They do, no matter where they live.”
Earlier, Rupali Ganguly had sent a legal notice to Esha Verma for “defaming” her character and personal life. it was in Response to Isha’s “false and harmful statements” And this step was taken to protect his reputation. The notice states that Ganguly has also sought compensation of Rs 50 crore.
The notice revealed that Ganguly suffered severe mental trauma that required medical care after allegedly facing insults on the sets and losing professional opportunities. It further said that Ganguly intended to maintain a “dignified silence”, but was forced to act after her and her husband Ashwin Verma’s 11-year-old son was brought into the matter.
Through his lawyer, Ganguly has demanded compensation of Rs 50 crore from his stepdaughter and an immediate unconditional public apology. He has also warned of taking legal action if the demands are not met.
