Rukmini Vasant defends sandalwood against comparison with other film industries
Actor Rukmini Vasant defended sandalwood against the notion that it does not measure Bollywood, Kollywood, Moollywood and Tollywood. In India in the Today Conclave South 2025, he cited the huge success of ‘KGF’ and ‘Kanta’ to support his point.

Actor Rukmini Vasant addressed the criticism against Sandalwood, claiming that it does not meet the expectations set by other Indian film industries like Bollywood, Kollywood, Moollywood and Tollywood. In India today in South 2025, he responded to comparison between these industries and sandalwood.
Speaking in South 2025 in India today, Rukmini said, “I come from Sandalwood. I have a prejudice. I think there is incredible work and happening. It is a matter of perspective.”
The actor also emphasized that Kollywood is coming with films that pay attention. “Now, meditation is going there. There are huge films like ‘KGF’ and ‘Kantara’ that attract a certain kind of attention.”

In the conclave, Rukmini also shouted a Kannada film, which was in the Oscar race. The 28 -year -old said, “A Kannada film, ‘The first people to know sunflower were in …’, it was also in the Oscar race. It won. It won. It is being done at the ground level as well as large scale goods.”
“You can’t really work on generality. I am very excited that now there is a spotlight on our industry. It’s a wonderful time to be an actor and from there,” he said.
He also shared his experience of working with actors Rishabh Shetty and Yash. Rukmini said, “He is a very emotional artist. He is a very creative and wonderful person. I am very privileged to work with him. I think I think I am a sponge and take as much as they can work with these people and take his approach to work. There is a passion and commitment to their work.”
On the professional front, Rukmini will be seen in Vasant Rishabh Shetty’s upcoming film ‘Kanta: Chapter 1’ and Yash’s much awaited film ‘Toxic’.
