Rubina Dilaik says she is being offered ‘bhabhi type’ roles since becoming a mother
TV actress Rubina Dilaik, who will be expecting twins in November 2023, says she is now only offered ‘bhabhi’ roles. Sharad Kelkar reflected on female actors’ experience of working for a shorter duration compared to male actors.
Television actress Rubina Dilaik, who is all set to become a mother to twin daughters in November 2023, recently shared that she has only been offered bhabhi roles ever since she embraced motherhood. On her chat show, Kisi Ko Bataya Nahi, Rubina spoke about female actors being ‘categorised’ into certain roles after becoming mothers.
While talking to actor Sharad Kelkar, who has been an active part of the Indian television industry, Rubina said, “When female actors welcome children, they are categorised in a certain way… (Despite losing the baby weight) I am being asked to play overall bhabhi-type roles.”
Sharad expressed his opinion on the shelf life of female actors and said, “I will tell you, this is a very brutal truth but it is a fact, you cannot deny it – the shelf life of a male actor is slightly longer than the shelf life of a lead female actor. It is not about being biased, it is practical. Because you (Rubina) came in (as a lead role) at the age of 18 and you became a television star for at least 10 years, Now it’s the turn of others (Now others also have a chance to rule like you).”
Rubina Dilaik and her actor-husband Abhinav Shukla welcomed twins in November 2023. The news was first shared by Rubina’s gym trainer. During her pregnancy, Rubina was quite active on her social media handles and regularly shared pictures and updates of her daily life as a mother.
Talking about work, Rubina Dilaik is known for acting in Zee TV’s show Choti Bahu. She has also appeared in shows like Shakti, Bigg Boss 14, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10 and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 12.
