Romeo and Juliet actor Olivia Hussey dies at 73
Veteran actor Olivia Hussey, best known for her role in Romeo and Juliet, has passed away surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 73. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, which recurred in 2018.
Veteran actor Olivia Hussey, who played the lead role in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, died on December 27. She was 73 years old.
As confirmed in an announcement on her official Instagram account, the Argentinian-born actress died at her home with her family by her side. “Olivia was a wonderful soul whose warmth, intelligence and genuine kindness left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her,” the post said.

Olivia Hussey was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008.
At just 15 years old, Olivia Hussey starred opposite 16-year-old British actor Leonard Whiting in Franco Zeffirelli’s film Romeo and Juliet. Co-written by Zeffirelli, the Paramount-distributed film earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. For his performance, Hussey was awarded a Golden Globe and a David di Donatello Award.

Olivia once again collaborated with Italian filmmaker Franco Zeffirelli, and played Mary in the 1977 epic international miniseries Jesus of Nazareth. She later gave another divine performance in the lead role in Mother Teresa of Calcutta (2003).
He was born on 17 April 1951 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His father, an Argentine opera singer, performed under the stage name Osvaldo Ribé, while his mother, Joy, was an English-born legal secretary.
Olivia Hussey is survived by her husband of 35 years, David Glenn Isley, son of actor Anthony Isley (Hawaiian Eye); his daughter, India; his two sons, Alexander and Max; and his grandson, Grayson.
