Rohit Shetty says that after 17 films he has no connection with awards

Rohit Shetty recently made a candid comment during a press meet in Mumbai about his long career in Bollywood and his equation with awards. The filmmaker, who has directed several blockbuster films, said that despite making 17 films, awards have always remained out of his reach.

Rohit Shetty was among several prominent film personalities present at the event, which also included producer Dil Raju, director Aanand L Rai, Lakshmi Manchu, Manoj Tiwari and Khushboo. While interacting with the paparazzi, Rohit joked about his long absence from award wins and said, “There is absolutely no relation between me and the awards. 17 films have been done, I go only for hosting (There is no connection between me and the awards. I have done 17 films and have been invited there only to host).” His self-deprecating comment brought smiles and laughter, reflecting his down-to-earth attitude despite his commercial success.
During the same conversation, Rohit also addressed the oft-discussed North-South cinema debate and urged everyone to look at Indian cinema as a collective industry. He said, “If no one asks this question, then everyone will just celebrate films. Ever since cinema started, production houses from there are making films here, directors from there are making films here, and films from here are being made in the South. It only becomes a bit controversial when someone makes an official remake. All this has been happening since the 1950s. I think we all should celebrate cinema.”
Expanding on the idea, the filmmaker highlighted how social media has brought industries closer and encouraged unity across different sectors. He said, “The world is becoming smaller because of social media; everyone knows each other now. Why don’t we all come together and create something so that when we are recognized globally, people don’t ask which state someone is from? They should just know that he is an Indian actor, director or producer.”
On the work front, Rohit Shetty last directed Singham Again In 2024, a star cast including Ajay Devgan, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor and Deepika Padukone will be joining the cast. The film performed well at the box office, earning Rs 372.4 crore worldwide.
