Rohit Shetty, Javed Akhtar, Ramesh Taurani and others come together to raise funds for 70s actress Rehana Sultan’s heart surgery

Rehana Sultan is a National Award-winning actress who ruled the 70s with her bold and impressive acting. However, it has been decades since she bid goodbye to her career in the Indian film industry. For some time now, the veteran artist has been battling complications with her heart. When things got critical, her brother approached IFTDA and through the organisation, celebs like Rohit Shetty, Ramesh Taurani, Javed Akhtar and others came forward to raise money for her treatment.

Ashok Pandit, president of the Indian Film and Television Directors Association, told The Indian Express that senior stars are facing medical complications. He said that in such difficult times, some people from the entertainment industry immediately transferred money to the hospital account and bore the expenses of his heart surgery.

Pandit informed about his condition and said that Dastak star Rehana Sultan is in touch with him. He had a cardiac problem and there were some complications in his heart valve. His brother Rishabh Sharma told him that his condition deteriorated about three days ago and he had to be admitted to the hospital. Sharma also sought help from Ashok to get financial assistance for his treatment, due to which the treatment was getting delayed.

But thankfully, thanks to kind personalities, the funds came in time and he underwent valve replacement surgery yesterday. He is doing well at the moment, but he is in the ICU. The medical team will monitor him for the next few days.

For the unversed, Rehana Sultan made her acting debut in the 1970 film Dastak alongside Sanjeev Kumar and Anju Mahendroo. Her debut film won her the prestigious National Film Award for Best Actress. The same year, she shared the screen with Shatrughan Sinha and Anil Dhawan in Chetna. But later, she was typecast in similar roles and her career eventually stalled despite her promising start.

Rohit Shetty is currently busy with the post-production of his upcoming film Singham Again. The action film stars Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor and others. The film is expected to hit the theatres this Diwali.
