Hollywood actor Robert Downey Jr. has returned to Marvel Studios as Dr. Doom. The latest film in the Avengers series ‘Avengers Doomsday’ has been announced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and actor Robert Downey Jr. announced it at San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

Robert Downey Jr., best known for his role as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), took to the stage at Hall H to introduce himself as the new face of Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom. The casting news was met with much excitement and curiosity, as the development marks Downey Jr.’s transition from playing a beloved hero to taking on the complex and iconic role of Doctor Doom.

‘Avengers Doomsday’ will release in May 2026. The caption on Marvel Studios’ official Instagram handle reads: “Just announced in Hall H: The Russo Brothers are returning to direct Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Only in theaters in May 2026.”
