In Mumbai, there is nothing better than the experience of dining with a beach view. Whether you do so from a rooftop bar or a local beachside haunt, looking out over the waves and horizon while enjoying a delicious treat is undeniably priceless. Recently, Mumbai has got another seaside dining destination and this one comes with its own proud heritage of another glorious Indian city. Kolkata’s iconic bakery and confectionery brand, Fluris, from APJ Surendra Park Hotels, launches its first tearoom in Mumbai. Located near the Gateway of India, this 100-seat establishment manages to be a café, bakery, restaurant, bar and much more! We got a chance to tour the space and dig into some of the signed offerings. Read our full review below.

Fluris’s Mumbai Tea Room has indoor and outdoor seating. It boasts of a charming ambiance and a sense of heritage charm that is befitting its location on PJ Ramchandani Marg. The menu includes its all-time favorite signature breakfasts, including the famous Flurries Full English Breakfast, Eggs Benedict, the famous Flurries Sandwiches, Rum Balls, Heritage Coups and Sundaes, Chocolate and Strawberry Cube Pastries, Classic and Flurries Specialty Cocktails and Heritage Coffees. More.

We started our feast with the House Cobb Salad, which had fresh, generous portions of every ingredient. Among the appetizers, we tried the Semolina-Crusted Chicken, which was crispy and satisfying. Fluries has a surprisingly wide range of bread-based dishes. Instead of a sandwich or flatbread (there are many choices of both), we decided to order one of the “Things on Toast.” While Fleury’s Beans on Toast has been an iconic meal since the ’70s, the menu here also includes other toppings. We chose creamy garlic mushrooms, which turned out unexpectedly delicious (see picture). The huge piece of toasted bread was completely covered with the delicious messy toppings. This gave the dish a home-style vibe that we liked.

The mains impressed us even more. We chose the simplest pasta: whole wheat spaghetti with traditional napoli sauce (vegan). It felt as relaxing as a warm embrace. The flavor of the basil, the spiciness of the tomato base and the flavor of the pasta were beautifully balanced. The second main dish was also one we would return for: Grilled Rosemary Marinated Chicken. Served on a thick bed of buttery mashed potatoes surrounded by delicious juices, the juicy pieces were a pure delight.

Flurries has a wide range of beverages in addition to its heritage hot tea selection. They have also introduced some cocktails with interesting combinations. We enjoyed Pin:00001, a delightful gin-based concoction with passion fruit, basil, honey and lemon. Among the mocktails, we recommend the delicious sour-sweet notes of Farmer’s Farm (dragon fruit, orange pulp, lychee and orange juice) and the refreshing Caribbean Sea (coconut water, pineapple chunks, ginger and basil). Of the hot beverages, we liked the Hazelnut Mocha, which sounds like the perfect drink to beat the monsoon blues.

For dessert, we tasted two Flurries classics: Rum Ball and Strawberry Cube Pastry. While the latter was a little too sweet for our tastes, the former was delicious! There are many other sweets to choose from as well.
