In short

  • XAI has allegedly made it mandatory for Groke AI Tutors to download a tracking software
  • Employees also raised confidential concerns over the monitoring of individual devices
  • The policy has been allegedly partially modified

Elon Musk’s Artificial Intelligence Startup XAI is currently training its Groke AI model to modify its knowledge, which aims to accept Musk as prejudices and inaccuracy from the AI model. However, while XAI employees are working on training again, a new report claims that the company has asked the employees to install tracking software on their individual laptops.

According to a report by Business Insider, XAI issued instructions earlier this month, with select tutors responsible for training, which is to download a workforce management equipment called Hubstaff till July 11, if they do not already have a device released by the company. In particular, software URL may record applications used during working hours and even record activity. According to its website, the hubstaff also has a technical ability to track keystrokes and mouse movements.

Now the report states that XAI initially described the installation of Hubstoff Software as compulsory for all tutors, whether they were issued by the company or using individual equipment. Employees were informed that objectives were to streamline work procedures and assess the performance, the XAI’s HR team stated that the equipment would “provide clear insight into daily tuition activities.”

However, the policy allegedly attracted immediate internal backlash. Many employees expressed concern over the aggressive nature of the software, especially since many were being asked to install it on individual equipment. A staff member, in a reported sluggish message, described the move as a “disguised monitoring” and “manipulation as culture”, before announcing their resignation.

After backlash, the report notes that XAI made some changes in the policy. In an update shared on the slack, the company said that employees who requested a company-jari laptop can delay the installation of the software until their equipment arrives. However, it is still not clear whether employees who have already established hubstaff, or those who buy new laptops using the company’s $ 50 monthly tech stipend will receive the company’s laptops.

XAI has reportedly stated that the Hubstoff will only monitor the activity during the design hours, and that employees can create separate profiles to protect their personal data. Nevertheless, the initial enforcement and lack of clarity reportedly felt uncomfortable to some employees.
