Accused number 2 in the Renuka Swamy murder case Darshan Thoogudeepa has once again been denied home-cooked food and other amenities in jail. The decision was taken by the Director General of Police (Prisons), according to information provided to the Karnataka High Court.
According to a report in Deccan Herald, state public prosecutor BA Belliyappa informed that Darshan’s representation was rejected on August 14, 2024, and the petitioner was informed about the same.
However, senior advocate Prabhulinga Navadgi, appearing for the actor, said that the petitioner has not received a copy of the order and has sought time to read the order. Granting time to the petitioner, Justice M Nagaprasanna adjourned the hearing till September 5, 2024.
Besides, Karnataka State Prisons and Correctional Services Director Malini Krishnamurthy said that Darshan’s appeal was rejected because he is accused of murder.
It is worth noting that earlier on July 26, his petition was rejected. After this, the Sandalwood star moved the High Court challenging the trial court’s order. He was demanding home-cooked food and bedding inside the jail.
Earlier, Darshan’s judicial custody was also extended till August 28, which was earlier scheduled to end on August 12. According to a report by India Today, all the 17 accused in the murder case were produced before the magistrate via video conferencing from Bengaluru and Tumakuru jails. Officials suggested that the ongoing investigation and sufficient evidence link all the accused to the crime and hence the judicial custody is extended.
The Renuka Swamy murder case came into the limelight after Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his alleged girlfriend Pavithra Gowda were arrested in connection with her murder on June 11.
The victim was a 33-year-old pharmacist and a fan of Darshan. According to several reports, Renuka made derogatory comments against Gowda and accused him of causing Darshan’s separation from his wife. Following this, Pavithra planned to take revenge on him with the help of Darshan Thoogudeepa, who allegedly instigated the murder.
According to the report, he allegedly caught Renuka Swamy and murdered her with multiple weapons in his garage. Later, the victim’s body was found lying in a storm drainage.
