One of the most prestigious films of Indian cinema, ‘Umrao Jaan’, who is starring on the legendary actor Rekha, is ready to return to the big screen. It is returning to theaters on 27 June, reinstated in 4K resolution.
The 1981 Classic has resurved under the leadership of the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), which brings the 19th -century poetic epic to life for the new generation cinefiles.
Directed by Muzaffar Ali, ‘Umrao Jaan’ is a cinematic gem that is celebrated for its soulful story, music and rich depiction of Awadh culture. The film was originally produced by SK Jain and Sons and Integrated Films, and for a long time the revered for the unforgettable illustration of the Corteen-Piete’s line, a performance that gave her the National Film Award for the Best Actress.

To mark the occasion, filmmaker Muzaffar Ali will also launch a limited-sanskrit coffee table book, which will offer a rare glimpse behind the film’s producing scenes. The book includes never seen before the set, original dress sketches, calligraphy, poetry and individual anecdotes. It will be released in collaboration with the dramatic re-reliefs of the film.
Speaking about the revival of the film, Ali said in a statement, “Umrao jaan was not just a film – it was a journey in the soul of a lost culture, one forgotten one FestiveThrough his pain, poetry and grace, we tried to revive the elegance of an era where love and longing had spoken in poetry. I had an actor who brought a lot for his characters, and then there were lines, who lived life and actually immortalized it. I am thrilled that the film is a part of our being for a whole new generation to search for a time and culture on the big screen. ,
The brilliant actors of the film include Nawab Sultan, Naseeruddin Shah, Raj Babbar, Shaukat Kaifi, Dina Pathak and Gajanan Jagirdar as Farooq Sheikh. It also started the late Farukh Jaffer, who portrayed the mother of Umrao in the film.
