Millennials who grew up watching Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein in the early 2000s might fall in love all over again. RHTDM is returning to cinemas 23 years after its release. The 2001 film starring R Madhavan and Dia Mirza in the lead is considered a cult classic in Hindi cinema. Dia, who made her acting debut with RHTDM, recently recalled that she was dropped from several projects after the iconic 1999 film’s box office failure. The actress also spoke about how RHTDM gained popularity among the audience.
In a new interview given to Times of India, Dia Mirza revealed that the actress and her team were completely devastated after the failure of the film ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’. Dia also revealed that she was removed from many projects. The actress said that the film ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’ flopped at the box office, but later it became popular among the people through electronic and social media.
Calling it a revelation, the RHTDM actress recalled, “The film’s popularity grew after it was shown on television and several years later, it got further boost on social media.”
Elaborating on the 2001 film ‘Rehnaa Hai’, Dia said that the audience has consistently loved the film, making it achieve ‘cult status’. The 42-year-old actress admitted that the recognition the film has received has helped her understand that the film really connects with cinema lovers.
In the same interview, the Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein actress shared her experience of working with R Madhavan and Saif Ali Khan on the sets. Dia, who was a newcomer at the time, described Maddie as her “guru” on the sets, who used to guide her during the filming. She shared that her co-star is a true gentleman.
The IC 814: Kandahar Hijack actress revealed that Saif used to make her laugh a lot on the sets of RHTDM. Dia revealed that she loved spending time with the Omkara actor at that time. She revealed that Saif used to make her comfortable with his humour.
Meanwhile, on August 29, R Madhavan posted a video of himself on Instagram informing his fans that Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein is back in theatres. Madhavan sent a video message to his Instagram followers in which the actor shared that he was feeling nervous.
He said, “I don’t know why I am nervous today.” “I hope you all love this movie again as much as you did, even if you didn’t watch it in the theatre…”, the RHTDM actor added.
Dia gave her reaction in the comment section. Her comment on R Madhavan’s post was, “Now you are bothering me.”
Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein is set to release again on August 30, 2024. The 2001 romantic drama was a remake of Menon’s Tamil film Minnale, which also starred R Madhavan in the lead role. Madhavan played Shastri aka Maddy in RHTDM and Dia Mirza was cast as Reena Malhotra in the film. Saif’s character was named Rajeev Samra aka Sam. The Madhavan and Dia-starrer also featured Anupam Kher, Vrajesh Hirjee, Navin Nischol in important roles.
Talking about work, Dia Mirza’s series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack premiered on Netflix on August 29. In this, Vijay Verma played the role of pilot Captain Devi Sharan. The series also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Patralekha, Amrita Puri and Arvind Swami.
