Redmi Buds 5C Review 8/10

Pros

  • compact design
  • ANC support
  • Long-lasting battery

Shortcoming

  • Slow pairing of companion app
  • No battery indication on the case

Redmi has launched several new products recently. In a recent launch event, the company refreshed three of its line-ups with the launch of the Redmi 13 5G, Redmi Pad Pro 5G, and Redmi Buds 5C. We have already reviewed the Redmi 13 5G and Redmi Pad Pro 5G, and we are also testing the Redmi Buds 5C. The earbuds have powerful active noise cancellation (ANC), a super-light built, and strong battery life. But is it a perfect pair of TWS? No, it has a few flaws. Having said that, at a price of Rs 1,799, the Redmi Buds 5C is still a good buy. Here is our detailed review of the earbuds.

Beautiful and compact

The Redmi Buds 5C have a gorgeous look and feel. The square case has rounded edges and is compact enough to fit in your fist. The buds are available in three colours: Acoustic Black, Symphony Blue, and Bass White. While the classic white and black look great, I reviewed the beautiful Symphony Blue. There is a white light on the front of the case that glows when you open or close the lid. It also glows when you put the case on charge. The earbuds have a Type-C charging port at the bottom of the case with a pairing button next to it.

Opening the charging case reveals the buds, which resemble the Apple AirPods Pro (Gen 2). The cute little buds come with two magnets at the bottom so that they fit perfectly in the charging case. The Redmi Buds 5C also has a sensor on each bud for touch gestures like pause, play, change songs, and more.

The earbuds fit my ears well, even when I went for a walk outside. The retail box of the earbuds also comes with two extra pairs of eartips. The medium earbuds are set to the earbuds by default, and there is one small and one large eartip in the box. I was using the medium earbuds and it fit my ear perfectly.

‘Redmi’ is written on the back of the case.

Even though the Redmi Buds 5C looks beautiful, its design left me wanting more. For instance, the charging case doesn’t show the battery level. Even when you connect the earbuds to an Android phone, it only shows the battery percentage of the buds, not the case – it doesn’t show even when paired with an iPhone. So the only way to check the battery percentage of the charging case is through the Xiaomi Earbuds app. This adds to the hassle as I have to check the app for its battery every day.

Superfast Connectivity

Pairing is easy on the Redmi Buds 5C. Thanks to the Google Fast Pairing feature, it connects to your device as soon as you open the case lid – once you have initially paired the device. I used it with both Android and iOS, the Redmi Buds 5C offers super fast connectivity with any device.

Impressive audio quality with multiple sound profiles

The Redmi Buds 5C offers an immersive audio experience with different sound profiles and modes. The earbuds feature up to 40dB of noise cancellation and are equipped with 12.4mm dynamic titanium drivers. You can switch between ANC modes by simply doing a long press on any of the buds. It has three modes: Noise Cancellation, Transparency, and Off.

The Buds 5c has a strong ANC. I used the buds both indoors and outdoors. While using it in the hustle and bustle of the newsroom, I was not even able to hear the voice of my colleagues sitting next to me. Even while travelling in the metro, the earbuds were easily able to keep out excessive noise. The Transparency mode, on the other hand, is a combination of ANC and regular mode. It is ideal when you are walking on the street, or you want to listen to music but still pay attention to your surroundings.

With different sound profiles, the Redmi Buds 5C appeals to a variety of listeners. It lets you balance the audio to your liking. It has 5 sound profiles: Standard, Enhance Treble, Enhance Bass, Enhance Voice, and Custom.

While reviewing this TWS, it was great to listen to “Blockbuster” from Coke Studio. It offered a good surround sound experience; I could hear the sound from one earpiece to the other. The sound profiles definitely make the experience better, but I consider Enhance Bass to be my personal favorite. To test the Enhance Bass profile, I put on Imagine Dragon’s “Believer” and it caught every beat and thump. While the song itself is powerful, this profile makes it even more engaging. You can control all these EQ settings from the Xiaomi Earbuds app.

There are other features in this app as well. The interface shows a few options, including the battery percentage of the buds and the charging case. You can also change modes, along with the ability to customize gestures on the buds. The app has a lot of features, but it often takes time to connect.

Powerful Battery

Priced at Rs 1,799, the Redmi Buds 5C has an impressive battery life. I charged the case once every five days. I consider myself somewhere between a moderate to heavy user of earbuds. I wear them for at least 5-6 hours a day, and this time goes up whenever I get time to watch a movie or show on my phone or tablet.

Talking about the charging time, the buds take less than an hour to fully charge, but the charging case takes a little longer. In an hour, the case gets charged 50 percent. But since the battery life is great, I don’t mind the charging time.

The Redmi Buds 5C comes with a 480mAH battery for the case and a 45mAH battery for the earbuds.

Redmi Buds 5C: Is it worth buying?

At Rs 1,799, the Redmi Buds 5C is a great buy. It has a great audio system, long battery life and a compact design. There are a few flaws, but I don’t think any of them are big enough to spoil the user experience of the Buds. Overall, the Redmi Buds 5C is 8/10.
