A new Covid-19 variant, NB.1.8.1, which is now dubbed ‘Nimbus’, is rapidly spreading to many countries and making headlines for a painful and specific symptoms: a serious sore throat described as “swallowing the razor blades” by patients.

According to international reports, this abnormally acute throat pain is becoming an emerging symptom of rapidly new stress.

This symptom, which is being called “Razor Blade Throat”, is affecting individuals across America, a report of the Associated Press is mentioned.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that the variant currently does not pose a high risk of serious illness than previous strains.

According to the report, people contracting the Covid-19 infection, reporting an unusually acute sore throat, which, according to the report, is felt like swallowing the razor blade.

What is the Nimbus version?

NB.1.8.1 variant, now named ‘Nimbus’, is part of the developed Sars-Cov-2 virus family, which health officials say that the flu is behaving like a seasonal virus similar to the flu.

However, Nimbus has attracted attention due to its unusual symptoms profile and rapid geographical proliferation in recent weeks.

By mid -May, the WHO reported that Nimbus was responsible for the Kovid -19 samples around 11% globally.

The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also confirmed that passengers coming from Asia in states such as California, Virginia, New York and Washington revealed the version of the airport screening.

In India, INSACOG (Indian Sars-Cov-2 Genomics Consortium) identified four circulating variants in the country: LF.7, XFG, JN.1.16, and NB.1.8.1.

Beyond acute throat sore throat, common symptoms of the Nimbus version mirror those earlier strains, including fever and chills, coughs, headaches and shortness of breath.

What are Indians saying?

There has been a slight decrease in cases in India. By 20 June, the active Kovid -19 Cassalids stand in 5,608 cases, indicating the trend downward in infections despite the presence of new variants.

According to the WHO, Nimbus is currently classified as a low risk, in which there is no evidence of severity or increase in mortality and most patients are managing their symptoms through home isolation.
