Rapper Fatman Scoop tragically passed away on Friday night, August 30, at the age of 53. He collapsed during a performance at Hamden Town Center Park in Connecticut. Freeman was performing at the ‘Green and Gold Party’ when he suffered a medical emergency. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Scoop, who was born Isaac Freeman III, was known for his hit “Be Faithful” and collaborations with artists such as Missy Elliott. His tour manager has confirmed his passing, and on Saturday (August 31), his family also released a statement sharing the heartbreaking news.
Referring to Freeman as “a radiant soul, a ray of light on stage and in life,” his family wrote that he was not only a “world-class performer” but also “a father, brother, uncle and a friend.”
“He was a source of laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage,” the statement said. “Fatman Scoop was known around the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music inspired us to dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he showed to all will be greatly missed but never forgotten,” his family wrote.
Freeman’s tour manager, DJ and producer Birch Michael aka Pure Cold, also announced the news on social media on Saturday.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I announce the passing of Isaac Freeman III, known professionally as Fatman Scoop,” Michael wrote. “I am truly lost for words … You took me all over the world and got me to perform with you on some of the biggest and greatest stages on the planet, the things you taught me truly made me the person I am today.”
The rapper was scheduled to perform at the UK’s Reminisce Festival in September. Fatman Scoop is survived by his son, daughter and brother.
