Ranveer Singh stuck in legal trouble, complaint filed for insulting divine tradition
A Bengaluru lawyer has filed a complaint against Ranveer Singh for copying the Daiva scene from Kantara Chapter 1 at IFFI, alleging that the act has hurt the religious sentiments of the Tulu speaking community.

A complaint has been filed against Bollywood star Ranveer Singh at High Grounds police station in Bengaluru for copying the Daiva scene from Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, with the complainant alleging that the act has hurt religious sentiments.
Bengaluru lawyer Prashanth Metal files complaint against actor for remaking Rishabh Shetty’s film Ullalathi Daiva Performance during his stage address at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 28. The complaint states that while praising Kantara Chapter 1 And its lead star-director Rishabh Shetty, Ranveer Singh reportedly described Daiva as a “demon” and a “female ghost”, which the lawyer claims was derogatory and offensive to religious beliefs.
The legal complaint has been filed under sections 299, 302 and 196 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023, stating that through his “illegal and offensive actions”, Ranveer Singh has hurt the sentiments of “millions of Hindus, especially the Tulu-speaking community of Karnataka”. The complainant further mentioned that the actor made derogatory remarks about him Ullalathi Daiva During his stage address at the closing ceremony of IFFI.
The development comes a day after Ranveer Singh issued a public apology on his Instagram Story following widespread trolling on social media after the video of his act went viral.
Ranveer Singh wrote, “My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s incredible performance in the film. From actor to actor, I know how much time it takes to perform that particular scene the way he did, for which he praises me immensely. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief of our country. If I have hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologize.”
The situation has sparked strong reactions online, with many expressing disappointment, while others believe the controversy may die down following the actor’s apology.
