Period dramas inspired by Hindu mythology are taking center stage with an exciting line-up of films for fans. From Ranbir Kapoor’s much-awaited Ramayan to Vicky Kaushal’s recent announcement, Mahavatar; It would not be wrong to say that Satyayug is back in Indian cinema. Read on to find out why we think so.

Earlier in the day, Vicky Kaushal announced his next collaboration with Amar Kaushik with Mahavatar. This mythological film is based on the life of Chiranjeevi Parashuram, the “eternal warrior of righteousness”. Backed by Dinesh Vijan, the film will release on Christmas 2026.

Just a few days ago, the release date of Nitesh Tiwari’s long-awaited Ramayan was made official. In the special post, the team announced the two parts of the film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi that will release on Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027 respectively.

Notably, before these two announcements, audiences had already enjoyed Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, which released earlier this year. Going forward, the Kalki cinematic universe will have only 2 parts, followed by the 3rd part dedicated to Supreme Yaskin.

The first part of Kalki 2898 AD ends with Supreme Yaskin getting a taste of the serum he has been craving and Project K comes to life. In the second part, pregnant Sumathi will play an important role, while Bhairava’s shocking revelation leaves Ashwatthama in disbelief.

In an earlier conversation with Prabhas on Instagram Live, Nag Ashwin revealed that Part 2 of the film will take 3 years to complete. This means that the makers will be gearing up for its release in 2026.

Now coming back to the point that we mentioned in the beginning, all the above movies are basically inspired by the different incarnations of Lord Vishnu. For example, Parashurama is said to be the 6th incarnation, Lord Rama is said to be the 7th incarnation.th Avatar and Kalki from 2nd half of 2898 AD Lord Krishna and Kalki are said to be the 8thth and 10th respectively incarnation. All these films will hit the big screen in the year 2026-27.
