Ranbir Kapoor reveals he did not shed tears on Rishi Kapoor’s demise
Speaking to Nikhil Kamath on his YouTube channel, Ranbir Kapoor spoke about his childhood and his relationship with his late father, actor Rishi Kapoor. While he shares a great bond with his mother, the actor’s relationship was “not so good with his father”. Describing it as “distance”, he admitted to loving and respecting the Naseeb actor.
Ranbir also revealed that he stopped crying very quickly. He then said, “You know it’s strange that I didn’t cry when my father passed away.” Going back in time, he recalled that the night the doctor told him that it was his father’s last night and he would be leaving soon, Ranbir went into the room and had a panic attack.
Elaborating more on this, he said, “I was like, ‘I don’t know how to express myself. I don’t know what was happening, this is unbearable.’ But I don’t think I’ve grieved,” adding that he doesn’t understand the loss of losing a parent.
When asked if he feels guilty about it, he said, “I don’t feel as guilty as he did when he went away.” Ranbir is able to say this because Rishi Kapoor had talked about it during the year he spent a lot of time in New York during treatment.
The Animal actor revealed that one day the late actor came to his room and started crying. At that time, Ranbir did not understand what to do. Then he realized the distance between him and his father. He said, “I felt guilty that I did not have the courage to remove the mirror or the distance between us and go and hug him.”
There was a time when the ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ actor was addicted to smoking. But he gave up the habit after becoming the father of daughter Rhea Kapoor.
