Amid mixed reactions to the teaser, actor Sunil Lahiri shared his thoughts on the character of Lord Ram played by Ranbir Kapoor in Ramayan Part 1. Noting some missing qualities, he expressed confidence that the actor would justify the role.

As the film gears up for release in Diwali 2026, veteran actor Sunil Lahiri, who played the role of Laxman in Ramanand Sagar’s film. Ramayanahas now shared his perspective on Ranbir Kapoor landing the role of Lord Ram.

talking to dnaLahri gave a measured reaction to Ranbir’s portrayal and expressed confidence in the actor’s abilities while pointing out some of the qualities she felt were lacking in him.

He said, “Ranbir looks fine, but the innocence is a bit lacking. The patience, calmness and innocence that Arun (Govil) had is missing here. But I am sure he will justify the role with his acting.”

He also talked more extensively about the casting selection, suggesting that a new face might be better suited for the role.

The actor said, “He looks a bit tough; he is more suitable for Lakshman or Bharat. For such a role, it is always better to have a fresh face. A new actor, who has no image or controversy, is always a perfect match.”

Lahri’s comments come at a time when online discussion about the film is already gaining momentum. their connection with the original Ramayanawhich aired between 1987 and 1988 and remains one of the most watched shows in Indian television history, adds context to his views.

However, the upcoming film is generating curiosity for its scale and casting. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, the project stars Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Ranbir is also hinted at in the teaser Taking a double appearance, with one Brief role of Lord Parashurama.

Backed by producer Namit Malhotra, Ramayana Envisioned as a two-part cinematic saga, the first installment will hit theaters during Diwali 2026 and the second is planned for Diwali 2027.
