Rana Daggubati: Before Baahubali, we didn’t know about a Rs 1,000 crore film
Actor Rana Daggubati talks about his growing obsession towards the Rs 1,000 crore box-office target and how the definition of success changed after ‘Baahubali’.

Actor Rana Daggubati, often considered one of the key pillars of modern Telugu cinema, has shared his views on the increasing pressure of big budget films and box-office targets. While promoting his upcoming film ‘Kantha’, the actor talked about how the talk about the collection of Rs 1,000 crore has shaped the expectations of the industry.
In a recent interview with Galata PlusSpeaking about the commercial race, he said, “What screams Rs 1,000 crore? We didn’t know that number before ‘Baahubali’. We didn’t know what our entire industry was worth. Today, numbers have become a fixed mathematics, but when a film was being made it was never a calculation. I think each film has its own success, merit and the impact it has on the audience.”
Rana further explained that he believes that really defines the value of a film. “There will be films that may not have been successful at the box-office, but over time, they will have been loved in different forms. There’s never a time when we decide, ‘We want this, this is how we make it, and make it happen.’ It’s always about the story and what we can do to deliver it to its greatest potential,” he said.
‘Kantha’, directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, is Dulquer Salmaan’s much-awaited period drama starring Samuthirakani, Bhagyashree Borse, Rana Daggubati in lead roles. The recently released trailer takes an entertaining look at the emotional and creative power struggle between an actor and his mentor.
