Ram Pothineni on casting Upendra in Andhra King Taluka: He is a Telugu star
Telugu actor Ram Pothineni, while promoting his next film ‘Andhra King Taluka’ in Bengaluru, revealed why he chose Kannada star Upendra to play the Telugu superstar in the film.

‘iSmart Shankar’ actor Ram Pothineni was recently in Bengaluru to promote the release of his upcoming film ‘Andhra King Taluka’ with co-star Bhagyashree Borse. Kannada superstar Upendra, who features in an extended cameo in the film, was also present at the event. During a media interaction, when asked why the makers chose Upendra for the role of the Telugu superstar, Ram Pothineni shared his opinion about Upendra’s popularity in the Telugu states.
Responding to the question, Ram said, “Uppi sir is a Telugu hero for us because his films are very popular. Even now he is very popular; I think recently his film was re-released in Telugu also. As I said, we have respect for him, not only as a star but as a person who is giving a very important message to the society. So we all look up to him.”
He added, “There’s a lot of fun, a lot of eccentricity that we really enjoy, but there’s also a very deep philosophy in there. So as much as you think it’s yours, it’s ours.” His words resonate with Upendra’s fan base not only in Karnataka but also in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The trailer of ‘Andhra King Taluka’ was unveiled at a large public event in Kurnool on November 18, attracting the attention of fans and industry watchers. In the film, Ram Pothineni plays the role of a young man named Sagar, whose life revolves around his admiration for his favorite actor, Suriya (played by Upendra).
At its core, ‘Andhra King Taluka’ explores the bond between a fan and his idol – a relationship that becomes the driving force of Sagar’s choices. The trailer presents the story as one of recognition, identity and ambition, culminating in a confrontation between the fan and the star he worships.
The film, which was earlier scheduled to release in theaters on November 28, will now release in theaters worldwide on November 27.
