Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel debuted in the industry with Rakesh Roshan’s film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. After almost 25 years, this film has been re-released in theaters today on Hrithik’s 51st birthday. Going down memory lane, the veteran filmmaker remembered that he was shot by the mafia at the time of the film’s release, which created a ‘challenging’ situation for the War 2 actor.

During a recent interaction with India Today, veteran actor and filmmaker Rakesh Roshan said that at the time Kaho Na Pyaar Hai released, the newcomer had to handle all the attention on his own.

“Unfortunately, I was shot by the mafia within a week and I was in the hospital. He was dealing with two huge situations simultaneously – his first film was such a big hit that everyone was praising him, and his father got seriously injured and hospitalised. It was an incredibly challenging time for us,” he said.

Roshan further said that by the grace of God he recovered and described his journey as “remarkable”. He talked about celebrating the film’s silver jubilee through its re-release. He expressed his happiness as a filmmaker, saying that the audience remembers this film even after years.

Highlighting the re-release of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai after Karan Arjun, Roshan expressed happiness over fans coming to experience the film which he has seen many times. “Even more exciting is the fact that the younger generation is eager to see it on the big screen. Overall, it’s a wonderful feeling,” he said on a concluding note.

During a recent interaction with News24, Ameesha Patel also shared that she and Hrithik had received marriage proposals and fans will be getting married in temples with their photos when the film releases. “I found letters written in blood confessing my love. It was very scary. There were people chasing me…people were chasing us,” she said.

Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel’s film ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’ was released in 2000.
