Prabhas’ latest release, The Raja Saab, continued to decline at the box office. The fantasy horror-comedy drama directed by Maruthi witnessed another decline on Sunday, when the film collected Rs. 4 crores. The milk was fed on the first day, and from then on, it probably remained untouched on the second and third day, which is why the drops are perfectly clear.
Raja Saab collected Rs. 50,000 in its opening weekend. Earning 14 crores at Hindi box office. This is one of the lowest opening weekends for a Prabhas film. Made on a large scale with a huge budget, The Raja Saab proved to be a major misstep for the makers. Based on current trends, it is expected to be out of theaters within the first week, which is a disastrous outcome for such a pan-Indian film.
Prabhas has got success at the Hindi box office since the film Baahubali. However, that success has been largely limited to the action genre or films with a devotional or religious background. Apart from these two, he has failed to score, first with Radhe Shyam and now with The Raja Saab. Although the film is an entertaining take on the fashion horror-comedy genre, which is staged on a grand scale, the comedy didn’t really deliver in the trailers. This being a Southern genre comedy is probably the holding factor.
One of the major reasons behind the unfortunate theatrical performance of The Raja Saab is its word-of-mouth promotion. The film received negative reviews among the audience, which sealed its fate on its first day. It will be interesting to see how far the film can go from here.
