After Kalki 2898 AD, Prabhas returned to the big screen with a fantasy horror-comedy drama, The Raja Saab. Advance bookings for the pan-India release in Hindi remained sluggish. Raja Saab sold around 7,000 tickets across the top two national chains, PVR Inox and Cinepolis, for the opening day in the North Indian belt.
A major reason for the film not doing well in pre-sales in Hindi is the delay in opening the ticket window. Prabhas has consistently opened with his films in the Hindi circuit; However, those films mainly belonged to the action genre or had strong religious sentiments. Although the horror-comedy genre is working, the comedy in this film is typical of a South Indian film, which can be a problem, especially in bigger centres.
The film will be released in its home markets on the opening day. Elsewhere, this is expected to be a normal affair. Based on the current trends and the buzz about the film, The Raja Saab is estimated to open around Rs 20 lakh. 4 Crore to Rs. 7 crores in hindi. The film is expected to emerge as the second lowest grossing Prabhas opener in the Hindi belt after Radhe Shyam in the post-Baahubali era.
The fate of Raja Saab largely depends on its word-of-mouth promotion among the audience. If the film receives a positive response, it will see an immediate increase in sales. It will be interesting to see how the horror-comedy performs at the box office.
