Radhika Madan on comparisons with Sridevi: I can never be like her
Actress Radhika Madan, in an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, spoke openly about comparisons of her recently released film ‘Sarfira’ with Sridevi and other issues.
Actress Radhika Madan is happy with the positive response her recent film ‘Sarfira’ has received. Known for her impressive acting skills and ability to play a variety of characters, Radhika has not only garnered critical acclaim in ‘Sarfira’ but has also made her way into the hearts of the audience. In a recent interview with IndiaToday.in, she shared her thoughts on the film’s success and spoke about comparisons with an icon of Indian cinema, the legendary actress Sridevi.
“Oh! I am so overwhelmed with the response that ‘Sarfira’ has received,” Radhika said. “I feel so grateful. Just to get so much love, it’s nice. It feels great. I felt, like every character that you play, you put a lot of effort into it and then you just forget about it.”
Due to her brilliant performance in ‘Sarfira’, Radhika is being compared to Sridevi, one of the greatest actresses of Indian cinema. Known for her incredible range and ability to bring life to any character, Sridevi remains a benchmark for many actresses. However, Radhika looks at these comparisons with a sense of humility and respect: “It is a big deal. I don’t want to believe it, but she said ‘I remind her of Sridevi’, which was a huge deal for me. I don’t think I can ever come close to her. I am not taking it seriously at all. I am awesome, nice, made my night, that’s all. I can never be like her.”
Talking about the pressure and expectations that come with success, the actor said, “I don’t take it seriously. See, I don’t take failures to heart either. I am quite neutral, and I try to stay neutral. If a film fails, or I don’t get that much appreciation, I ask myself this question ‘Did I give my all?’ If the answer is yes, then I say, great, let’s move on. And it’s the same when I get love.”
She further added, “My parents tell me you should celebrate your successes, otherwise your life will be over in a moment. And then I stop, and think, ‘Oh, what happened in my life’. OK, great. So I guess I recognise it. I give it respect and gratitude, and then I move on.”
Talking about her parents’ reaction to the film, Radhika said, “They were there for the first screening. They were crying. It’s always the same story. So whenever I see myself on the big screen it shakes me. I realise it when I watch the trailer or when the credits come, what I have done, who I have worked with, then it sinks in me. When I am shooting it never sinks in me. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not. When I was working with Irrfan sir (Khan), it didn’t sink in me, but when I saw the trailer, I cried. The same thing happened in ‘Pataakha’ and ‘Sarfira’. I was also watching the film with my family for the first time. It was a family and friends screening in Delhi and my name came up, and I started crying, and I was trying to hide, and I looked to my left and my parents were crying. So it’s the same case. They are watching every product of mine.” They feel extremely proud after watching ‘Sarfira’. They were just crying. They were very happy when I first came on television and then came into films. They are my biggest fans. They try to be critical sometimes but they can’t. But my brother is my biggest critic. He is very realistic. He says, everything was fine. You did better last time. I didn’t like the film. He is very honest and that brings me back to reality. He really enjoyed ‘Sarfira’.”
‘Sarfira’ starring Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan released on July 12. The film was directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad.
