Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 chipset, the first iteration of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset that we currently find in smartphones in the Rs 15,000 range. Though underpowered, the new Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 chipset is powerful enough to support 5G. It supports 5G connectivity via the Snapdragon 5G Modern-RF system with download speeds of up to 1Gbps. The chipset is compatible with sub-6GHz networks and standalone (SA) mode for better network performance.

Qualcomm has built the Snapdragon 4s Zen 2 chipset on a 4 nm process node, and it features an octa-core Kryo CPU with two high-performance A78 cores clocked at up to 2 GHz and six energy-efficient A55 cores clocked at up to 1.8 GHz. Snapdragon says this setup offers a balance of performance and energy efficiency, suitable for everyday tasks and multitasking. The Adreno GPU supports modern graphics APIs such as Vulkan 1.1 and OpenGL ES 3.2, making the gameplay and multimedia experience seamless.

As for the camera, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is backed by the Qualcomm Spectra image signal processor and includes support for a dual 16-megapixel camera setup or a single 32-megapixel sensor with 30 fps zero shutter lag.

As for the display, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 supports Full HD+ resolution at a 90Hz refresh rate for a more responsive visual experience. The chipset also supports LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, offering faster data access and efficient multitasking. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1, along with support for various global navigation satellite systems including dual-band NavIC for better positioning accuracy. The chipset also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology that allows the battery to be charged faster.

Talking about the new chipset and how it is designed to bring 5G to the affordable segment, Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Mobile Handsets, Qualcomm Technologies, said, “The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 mobile platform is a significant leap forward in making 5G technology more accessible, so more people can navigate the world at 5G speeds.” “Thanks to cutting-edge engineering, we’ve balanced affordability with strong performance and all-day battery life, as well as broader access to 5G for more enhanced mobile experiences.
