Arctic is heating not only in terms of climate change, but also in terms of geopolitics. Russia should not be left behind, putting pressure on Greenland and Canada’s annex with US President Donald Trump. President Putin today visited Murmansk, the largest city north of the Arctic Circle, where he promised “strengthening the global leadership of Russia in the Arctic”.
The Russian President, however, did not make any regional claims, nor spoke of expansionism. Although what came as a surprise, President Putin did not plan to enacce Greenland for President Trump’s plan and make it an American region.
President Putin said, “Geophysical competition in the Arctic sector is intense,” President Putin said, Donald Trump plans to handle Greenland as its primary example.
Talking about significant changes in US foreign policy, President Putin said, “America’s plans regarding Greenland are serious. These schemes have deep historical roots. And it is clear that the US will continue to systematically forward its geo-grain, military, political and economic interests in the Arctic sector.”
Putin signal for Trump?
But instead of criticizing or condemning Trump’s expansionist agenda, Putin left Greenland to his fate. “This is a case for Greenland for two specific countries (US and Denmark). It has nothing to do with us,” President Putin said at the Arctic Forum of Russia in Murmansk.
Putin’s statement, while completely away from Moscow from the Greenland case, has raised eyebrows globally. Geophysical and military experts read it as Moscow’s Washington moving forward to pursue their plans. Putin’s statement is also interesting as Kremlin and White House are trying to promote close ties.
Since returning to office in January this year, Donald Trump has also completely changed Washington’s approach and left in Moscow, Europe, especially in Ukraine, Lurch. Worried and anxious, leaders from all over Europe are often Hodls in France, who are looking for an option for Washington.
The intention of ‘acquisition’ of Greenland may also result in results for Ukraine at Putin’s stand, where Russia has gained control over the huge swaths of the Ukrainian region, which has no plans to return to Moscow.
Moscow and Washington-Shatru
Away from criticizing each other, which was ideal till January this year, Russia and America are now softening on each other, sometimes even some cases are also agreeing -such as President Zelanceci’s behavior, which Trump and his deputy JD Vance have seriously criticized since very public performance in the White House. Russian leaders resonate American leadership sentiments.
Today, with President Putin’s visit to Arctic, Moscow is promoting the idea that Russia and America can cooperate in the region, which is rich in rare earth materials with minerals and natural resources.
For foreign investment and economic cooperation, President Putin’s special messenger, Kiril Dimitriv today said that “We are open to consider various investment opportunities that we can jointly do with the US in some areas approved by the Russian government.”
“We are open to investment cooperation in Arctic. This can be in other areas beneficial for logistics, or Russia and the US,” he said, “he needs to end the war in Ukraine before such deals.”
“We (Russia and America) are now a very good dialogue, and I think it is very important that America is trying to understand the situation in Russia,” Mr. Dimitriv said in an interview to the BBC.
Greenland Furious
Meanwhile, Greenland has made it clear that it is “not for sale”. Denmark has also rejected Washington’s proposal and later the proposal of Washington to buy an autonomous region under the Denmark state.
Large -scale protests – Greenland’s largest in history – America’s pressure strategy in the Arctic Island was rejected, as the anti -American spirit has captured the Danish sector.
Greenland Prime Minister Mute EDEE said, “Recently, we could rely on Americans, who were our colleagues and friends, and with whom we enjoyed working very closely, but ended at that time.”
