Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly stepping up their preparations for their future roles as king and queen, as the royal family faces a year filled with King Charles’ health concerns and increased responsibilities.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have also gone through a challenging time, especially after Middleton, 42, was treated for cancer earlier this year. Following her diagnosis during scheduled abdominal surgery in January, she spent most of the year focusing on recovery, while Prince William reduced his public engagements to prioritize family time.
Now with the Princess cancer-free, the couple have gradually resumed their public duties. According to royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, it also meant increasing preparations for William’s eventual ascension to the throne. “Although the King has been performing his duties with typical determination, he has had to accept limitations during his cancer treatment. As a result, William is taking on more responsibilities, and he and Kate are preparing for their future roles sooner than expected,” Bedell Smith shared with People Magazine.
King Charles III has also been a matter of great concern to the royal family and has led to adjustments in their commitments. These circumstances have led his eldest son to represent the monarchy at major events. William made a solo appearance at the re-opening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on 7 December.
People quoted a royal family insider as saying, “They’re in line for the biggest job of their lives, and of course, Kate’s health has been prioritized, but this has caused everyone to take a step back and “It allows us to figure out what’s important right now.” Saying.
Royal insiders have indicated that formal succession plans are in development following Charles’s coronation in May 2023. These plans reportedly gained immediate momentum earlier this year due to the king’s health. “This is something the institute always keeps in mind,” a palace source said. “This is an institutional preparation,” he said.
According to a report in the New York Post, the increased focus on William and Kate’s future roles has reshaped the dynamics within the royal family. Insiders suggest that the relationship between the Prince of Wales and his father has evolved, especially as William has taken on more major responsibilities.
“Eventually their circumstances will change. Given what the future holds, it would make a lot of sense to build up slowly and prioritize spending time with family,” said a source close to the palace.
